Hogwarts Houses Divided

I've had a couple of people email me now to let me know that Hogwarts Houses Divided has been assigned as recommended reading in Durham University's Harry Potter course.

Cool beans. Hey Durham U students - you get extra credit for leaving reviews! ;)

Seriously, if anyone could scan the syllabus and send it to me, I would be very appreciative.

So, as those of you who laugh at my Poser art know, I suck at graphic design. For example, the art I had done for Alexandra Quick and the Stars Above is lovely, but the font I smeared across it for the title really does not work. I can tell by looking at it that it's poor design — I just don't have any design skills.

Alexandra Quick and the Stars Above

Compare with the cover that Pierre Raveneau (asahisuperdry on DeviantArt) made for me:

Alexandra Quick and the Thorn Circle

Much cleaner and crisper. It would be great for a PDF or print copy, though perhaps a little too dark for the small, high-contrast images favored nowadays by ebook publishers.

Now, check these out, sent to me by [livejournal.com profile] cactuscommando. They are perfect for ebook covers. If I were actually "publishing" the Alexandra Quick books, these would look great online.

Thanks, [livejournal.com profile] cactuscommando! When I get around to releasing a new version of the ebooks, I may use these as the ebook thumbnails, with the original cover art as title plates.

Finally, people have been asking me for years to do a sequel to Hogwarts Houses Divided, and I've been saying "Yeah, yeah, someday." Well, don't get your hopes up — "someday" is still lost in the fog of an uncertain future. However, [livejournal.com profile] tmonacelli has written his own fanfic of my fanfic, and you can find it here: Teddy Lupin and the Philosopher's Stone. Enjoy!

I've heard of Mark Oshiro, aka Mark Reads, but I'd never actually watched any of his videos or listened to his readings/sporkings of popular books.

Apparently, someone got him to read the first chapter of Hogwarts Houses Divided. o..O

I am not quite sure if he enjoyed it or found it excruciatingly painful...

(Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] momofquacker for the tip.)

I have created nicely formatted PDFs of all my books, complete with Tables of Contents and illustrations.

These versions are also more up-to-date in terms of editing. I keep a master copy of all of my stories, where I still fix typos and other errors I might come across. I try to fix the posted versions as well, but since they are posted in chapter format on several different archives, the latest corrections may not be reflected in every online version.

Additionally, Michael Lutz has provided me with eBook versions of Hogwarts Houses Divided, optimized for reading on small screens.

(If I get that Sony PRS-600 I've been thinking about, I may start tinkering more with eBook formats for all of my stories.)

Download here. I'd like to request that rather than distributing copies of the files, you distribute the link instead. The reason for this is that I will continue to upload revisions, if I discover more errors (and if I receive more fan art to include as illustrations), so I'd prefer that people be directed to download the most current version.

Happy Holidays!

So, Alexandra Quick been nominated for a Quicksilver Quill Award for Best Original Female OC on Mugglenet Fan Fiction. (Also, Maximilian was nominated for Best Original Male OC, Alexandra Quick and the Lands Below was nominated for Best General Story, Hogwarts Houses Divided was nominated for Best Post-Hogwarts Story, and Christmas In Amber was nominated for Best Historical Story.)

Obviously, I'm quite flattered, especially since Alexandra Quick and the Thorn Circle won the QSQ for Best General Story last year. However, the purpose of this post is not to brag, but to solicit opinions. The moderator of the Best Original Female OC committee asked me to provide "the three chapters you feel best define and showcase Alexandra as a character."

Hmm. Well, I have my own ideas, but I'd like to know which chapters you readers might recommend as ones which "defined and showcased Alexandra as a character."

QSQ stuff... )

If you haven't checked it out yet, the Quickipedia is a wonderful project started by Anthony J. Fuchs. Anthony has done a lot of work adding information from my books to this wiki. I didn't start it, nor do I do much in the way of editing, other than to add images and occasionally correct misinformation (and typos and grammatical errors, because I'm anal that way). As tempting as it would be to take it over and fill in lots of information from the author, I'd rather that it remain primarily the work of fans, else it may become too much a reflection of my own ego.

Anthony's been doing most of the work himself, so I'm sure he'd like it if more people would join him in adding and expanding on the articles there. (And, let's be honest, I get a kick out of it too. ;) )

I have added some images to character pages there (including Abraham Thorn, Absalom Thorn, Ben Journey, Diana Grimm, and Alexanda) and will probably add more in the future.

There is also a more general Harry Potter fan fiction wiki: the Harry Potter Fanon Wiki. Anyone can add information from any fan fiction story there. You'll find my Hogwarts Houses Divided characters there, among many others.

I'm posting this so I (hopefully) won't have to answer a bunch of emails asking "When is Book Three going to be done?"

Don't get me wrong, I'm not offended by people asking. It's flattering, in fact. But if I keep you all updated here, then I can just answer emails with, "See my LiveJournal."

Self-indulgent author's ramblings and a little bit of teaser... )

So, feel free to comment here, ask me questions, pick at my plot holes, or dissect my characters. (Just not my character. :ρ )

And for those of you who've been asking about a sequel to Hogwarts Houses Divided: yes, I've decided to do one. Right now, I'm thinking that I will probably write the HHD sequel between AQ3 and AQ4.

The war is over, and all is well, they say, but the wounds remain unhealed. Bitterness divides the Houses of Hogwarts. Can the first children born since the war's end begin a new era, or will the enmities of their parents be their permanent legacy?

Hogwarts Houses Divided is a next generation Harry Potter fan fiction, starring Teddy Lupin in his first year at Hogwarts.
